Authorities have registered a case against a woman teacher in Rampur after an investigation by the Uttar Pradesh government’s basic education department found her to be of Pakistani citizen, District Magistrate Ajay Kumar Dwivedi said on Saturday.
“An investigation by the education department revealed that she is of Pakistani origin. Accordingly, a case has been registered and further action is being taken,” Dwivedi told ANI.
Police said the case was registered on Tuesday at Azim Nagar police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), following a complaint filed by the Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA).
According to the complaint, the woman, identified as Farzana, had married a Pakistani national in 1979 and subsequently acquired Pakistani citizenship. She later returned to Rampur with her two daughters after her divorce, the complaint said.
It alleged that Farzana continued to reside in India after her visa expired and later secured a teaching position in January 1992 by concealing her Pakistani citizenship. A case related to her overstaying was earlier registered by the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) in 1983, the complaint added.
Following a recent probe by the LIU, the teacher was dismissed from service, officials said.
The complaint was filed after directions from the state government, police said, adding that further investigation is underway.
